Can you use any kind of lighter fluid for a zippo lighter?

My grandma gave me my grandpas old zippo lighter from the 70s or 80s. Do you have to use zippo lighter fluid or can you use any? And are there any precautions to take since it hasnt been used in like 20 years. It still makes a spark. And how do you fill it.
