What is better? Volvo XC60, Mazda CX-9, or the Chevrolet Traverse?

I would go with the CX-9, unless high service costs are not an issue for you in which case go for the Volvo. Volvo's are extremely safe well engineered cars but as with most European cars do tend to cost more for regular service.
