I made the choice to convert to a religion from atheist but I'm confused...?

I can't speak for other denominations, but I can state for fact that the Roman Catholic Church accepts the Big Bang theory. They state the exact instant of creation was God, but they don't oppose scientists studying anything except that. I was raised Catholic, and my priest always said that when we read the Bible, we shouldn't be asking ourself whether it was true, but we should ask ourself what it was supposed to mean. A lot of what I was taught was what we could learn from the Bible was in regards to how we should act, instead of what happened in the past
